METHODOLOGY

Block Diagram

A block diagram is shows an overview of a process of the system. By produce the block diagram, it will explain the process happens on the system. The block diagram for this Development of Integrated Crops Management System (DICM) system is shown below;

Figure 7: Block diagram for DICM system

Referring to the figure 7 above, the input of this DICM system is IR distance sensor. This IR sensor is used to detect the plants surrounding itself by through on the rod of iron by using DC gear motor. Once this IR sensor is detecting the plants, it will be send the data to the microprocessor which is ATmega 328 to process the data to stop the DC gear motor. The micro-controller will be received the data and process the data and automatically turn on the solenoid motor for a while to give the fertilizer on the plants. After for a while, the solenoid motor will turn of automatically and the DC gear motor will turn on and move to the other plants surrounding the rod of iron. This process will be repeated until this system arrived to the last stations. When there are obstacles in front of this DICM system which is detected by IR sensor, this sensor will send the data to the microcontroller to process the data. When the microcontroller received the data, it will process the data and automatically stop the DC gear motor and the turn the buzzer to notify the farmer. It will be continuing the system if there are no obstacles in front of this system.

LITERATURE REVIEW

In this part, we will discuss more about the components that are used in Development of Integrated Crops Management System (DICM). The main components for this project such as IR sensor, solenoid DC motor, DC gear motor, arduino and buzzer. This part is to enhance the knowledge of the student about the project.
 Infra red sensor (IR sensor)
This sensor can be used for most indoor applications where no important ambient light is present. For simplicity, this sensor doesn't provide ambient light immunity, but a more complicated, ambient light ignoring sensor should be discussed in a coming article. However, this sensor can be used to measure the speed of object moving at a very high speed, like in industry or in tachometers. In such applications, ambient light ignoring sensor, which rely on sending 40 kHz pulsed signals cannot be used because there are time gaps between the pulses where the sensor is 'blind'...
The solution proposed doesn't contain any special components, like photo-diodes, photo-transistors, or IR receiver ICs, only a couple if IR-LEDs, an Op amp, a transistor and a couple of resistors. In need, as the title says, a standard IR led is used for the purpose of detection. Due to that fact, the circuit is extremely simple, and any novice electronics hobbyist can easily understand and build it.

Solenoid DC motor

The Solenoids
Solenoids are actuators capable of linear motion. They can be electromechanical (AC/DC), hydraulic, or pneumatic driven and all operating on the same basic principles. Give it energy and it will produce a linear force. They are great for pushing buttons, hitting keys on a piano, valve operators, and even for jumping robots. DC solenoids operate on the same basic principles as a DC motor

How solenoids work

Inside a solenoid is motor wire coiled in a special way. When an electric current was send through this wire (energized), a magnetic field is created. The inner shaft of a solenoid is a piston like cylinder made of iron or steel, called the plunger or slug (equivalent to an armature). The magnetic field then applies a force to this plunger, either attracting or repelling it. When the magnetic field is turned off, a spring then returns the plunger to its original state.

DC gear motor
A gear motor is a type of electrical motor. Like all electrical motors, it uses the magnetism induced by an electrical current to rotate a rotor that is connected to a shaft. The energy transferred from the rotor to the shaft is then used to power a connected device. In a gear motor, the energy output is used to turn a series of gears in an integrated gear train.

Function

In a gear motor, the magnetic current which can be produced by either permanent magnets or electromagnets turns gears that are either in a gear reduction unit or in an integrated gear box. A second shaft is connected to these gears. The result is that the gears greatly increase the amount of torque the motor is capable of producing while simultaneously slowing down the motor's output speed. The motor will not need to draw as much current to function and will move more slowly, but will provide greater torque.

Uses of gear motor

Gear motors are commonly used in conveyor-belt drives, home appliances, in handicap and platform lifts, medical and laboratory equipment, machine tools, packaging machinery and printing presses. A special type of gear motor, the servo motor, provides more power in a compact, precise fashion, and is used when a motor with a rapid, accurate response is needed.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

In the past, all the fertilizer and pesticide spray to the plants are using man power in agriculture sector and it also will increase the expenses to pay the workers. It is difficult when the farm is large-scale and has more crops in the farm that are needed to give the fertilizer and pesticide spray. Besides that, in erratic weather it is also difficult to the farmer to give the fertilizer and pesticide to the crops. In existing system, fertilizing the crops is the way to deliver the fertilizer through sprinkler system. This sprinkler system only has one system which is to deliver the fertilizer to the crops only and it is difficult to give an additional function such as pesticide to the crops. With this situation, the Development of Integrated Crops Management System (DICM) was introducing to fertilize and pesticide the crops automatically.

INTRODUCTION

Agriculture is an important sector to the country’s economic development and it is the most important sector for developing countries like Malaysia. In fact it is one of the most important features that distinguish between the status of developing countries and developed countries. The same sector has contributed to the foundation of the Malaysian economy in the post-independence era in which at the time, the majority of people focus on the agriculture sector.
Nowadays, the agriculture sector is growing in Malaysia and it will become the most important sector in the future. In agriculture sector, to ensure the plants grow well and healthy, there are three elements that are essential to obtain the plants grow well and produce high yield and quality. Firstly is ensuring the crops got enough nutrients or fertilizer. Second is make sure the soil that uses is fertile and lastly make sure the pets is controlled closely. It is important to make sure the plants are needed enough nutrients and no pests can interfere with crop growth and all this kind of work are mostly using man power to fertilizer and pesticide the crops. This is difficult for farmer who employed in large scale plantations.
By referring this situation, the Development of Integrated Crops Management System (DICM) was introducing to provide convenience and comfort in the agriculture sector. The purpose of the DICM system is to fertilize the crops automatically. This DICM system is actually giving fertilizer to the crops and has an additional function as a pesticide spray to the crops. This system will used to deliver the fertilizer to the plants and it will give a pesticide to the plants with a slide on the rod of iron. With this DICM system, it can be used in large-scale farming without using man power.
A DICM system is made to improve the quality of the plants to ensure the plants grow well and healthy and at the same time will reduce using man power to make the convenience and comfortable to the user.

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, fertilizer and pesticide the crops in agriculture sector mostly are using man power. With this situation, the Development of Integrated Crops Management System (DICM) was introduced to provide convenience and comfortable in the agriculture sector. The purpose of the DICM system is to fertilize the crops automatically. This DICM system is actually giving fertilizer to the crops and has an additional function as a pesticide spray to the crops. With this DICM system, it can be used in large-scale farming with less man power.
